DAY SEVEN: THE ZENITH OF AWE | CHANGE OF VENUES!
Tim Robbins returns, the phenomenal ANOHNI, and the impressive “Gauguin’s Turtle”—this is the lineup for the festival Friday. The Malta Festival kicks off its second weekend in grand style.
We have very important news! We are announcing new locations for selected events taking place on September 13th and 14th as part of the Malta Festival.
The performance of Gauguin’s Turtle has been moved from Plac Wolności to Hall 2 of the Poznań International Fair (ul. Głogowska 14). The event time has also changed, with the performance now starting at 9:00 p.m. Right before it, at 8:30 p.m., there will be a flash mob by Project Elimu. Admission remains free, but space in the hall is limited, so we recommend arriving early.
The Green Energy Zone has a new location. It has been moved inside the Festival Club at Plac Wolności, in the Arkadia building (Plac Wolności 13A), which is best accessed via our impressive pink stairs.
As previously informed, due to the overwhelming interest of the Malta audience in the performance Elizabeth Costello | J.M. Coetzee. Seven Lectures and Five Fables with a Moral by Krzysztof Warlikowski and the New Theatre, we have moved it to a larger venue. Thanks to the support of the Poznań International Fair, the performance will take place in the Earth Hall (ul. Głogowska 10). The date and time remain unchanged (Saturday, September 14th, at 5:00 p.m.). Previously purchased tickets have been relocated, with new seats assigned according to the original category of the purchased tickets. A new batch of tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 13th, at 3:00 p.m.
In response to numerous inquiries regarding the location of Friday’s ANOHNI & The Johnsons concert, we would like to inform you that changing the venue is not possible due to advanced production preparations and legal regulations related to organizing mass events. We are in constant contact with meteorological specialists, and current forecasts do not indicate any weather conditions that would pose safety risks. The concert will take place in the Stary Browar Park. We strongly recommend warm clothing, and you will be allowed to bring rain ponchos and umbrellas without sharp tips to the concert.

For the second time, Upside Down directed by Tim Robbins will be performed at Aula Artis. The Oscar-winning actor will once again present his Greek vaudeville about divisions and conflicts. The Actors’ Gang troupe will return to the stage, so it’s worth recalling the words of the Golden Globes Association: “The Actor’s Gang makes theater relevant to society and restores the ancient idea of the stage as a communal sacred space, presenting the work of innovative theater artists.”
In the Stary Browar Park, the exceptional ANOHNI and the Johnsons will perform. Their first studio material under this name in 13 years—My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross—is an album radiating beauty, expressed through ANOHNI’s phenomenal vocals, full of both fragility and power, accompanied by subtle yet incredibly evocative instrumental layers. ANOHNI will return to the Malta Festival after an 18-year hiatus, having last performed in 2006 alongside Devendra Banhart, CocoRosie, and Animal Collective.
Important update! Gauguin’s Turtle will not be performed at Plac Wolności but in Hall 2 of the MTP. For one evening, this space will be transformed into a giant painting studio, where the French troupe Lucamoros will set up a massive easel, which will also serve as the stage for this visual-musical spectacle. Gauguin’s Turtle will be shown in Poland for the first time. The event time has also changed. It will now start at 9:00 p.m., with a flash mob by Project Elimu taking place just before.
At 7:00 p.m. in the Festival Club, u.r.trax, a Paris-based producer, DJ, and vocalist known for her eclectic selection—from psychedelic techno, raw and cold electro, and dark trance to deconstructed rhythms—will perform. At 10:00 p.m., the Maltese silent disco will begin in the same venue.
Unchanged parts of the program include morning hatha yoga sessions, Afro dance, screenings of selected episodes of The Domino Effect at Kino Muza, and various eco-friendly activities in the Green Energy Zone. Detailed information about all the events can be found in the “Program” section and in the official Malta Festival 2024 app, available for iOS and Android devices.
