“If I disappeared tomorrow, would anyone even notice?” No one. Evan is sure of it. The thought of school, of contact with peers, is unbearable. This noisy crowd, the embarrassment of trying to start a conversation and no place to escape to… As part of his therapy, he writes himself a letter. It was supposed to motivate him, but something went wrong again, and then it only got worse. The letter fell into the hands of a friend from class, Connor. It made him very angry, because Evan also wrote about his sister – Zoe. A few days later, Connor commits suicide, and his parents find Evan’s letter with him and decide that the boys must have been friends. Trying to correct the mistake is too much for Evan, especially since finally what he says is important to someone. He delves into a story about a friendship that never was…

“Dear Evan Hansen” is a story about those who feel invisible. The play touches on topics we want to talk about, but often don’t know how. It touches on important issues of mental health for teenagers, depression, social anxiety and addiction in the world of social media. However, it is also a warm story about the power of friendship and building good relationships, with a simple message: #youarenotalone. The musical “Dear Evan Hansen” premiered in July 2015 in Washington and quickly became a phenomenon among young people. The music and lyrics were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land”, “The Greatest Showman”), and the script by Steven Levenson. The play won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. In 2021, the musical was adapted into a film by the acclaimed director Stephen Chbosky. Audiences loved it for songs such as “You Will Be Found”, “Waving Through a Window” and “For Forever”. The musical “Dear Evan Hansen” is being brought to the stage of the Music Theatre in Poznań by Paweł Szkotak, the musical director is Dariusz Tarczewski, the choreography is prepared by Karol Drozd, and the set and costumes by Natalia Kitamikado.
