Island of the Dead is a time to recall those who have passed to the other side, to raise the issue of human mortality and the dematerialization of their works, the ephemerality and resurrection of memory. Because it is necessary to build bridges between two shores - what has been and what will happen. We look at “Island of the Dead” from a distance, from the perspective of life, but the moment of changing perspective will happen to each of us.

Anna Koczorowska

A performative essay based on Arnold Böcklin’s painting “Island of the Dead”, whose heroes and performers are seniors.

The inspiration for the performative essay that the Malta audience will see at the Polish Dance Theater is the famous painting by Arnold Böcklin, which also inspired the creation of a poem by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer and a symphonic poem by Sergei Rachmaninoff. These three works, each in their own way, explore the theme of leaving and transience, evoking fear, but also melancholy and deep reverie. The realization was created at the interface of two orders: symbolic and existential. Although it may cause anxiety, it primarily invites reflection and contemplation.

Iwona Pasińska will try to find timeless values and their meaning in the magical world of the island.

It is an invitation to travel together through time and space, to a place where art becomes a bridge between what passes away and what remains forever.
