And although it may seem that it is impossible to conduct a performance with a plot during sixty minutes of tapping your foot (regardless of whether you stand or sit), the creators show that it is possible.
– Julia Siwy, Didaskalia – Gazeta Teatralna
At the turn of the 1990s and 2000s, an ephemeral revolution in the rhythm of acid techno, drum’n’bas, jungle and punk took place in Łódź. Driven by thousands of young people who dyed their hair blue or green, put on silver wide pants and a vacuum cleaner on their backs and danced until they dropped on the streets of the city, famous for its post-factory dust and overwhelming greyness.
I’m from Łódź, but I’ve never been to the Freedom Parade, to the squat on Węglowa, to parties in the tunnel under Pomorska Street, or to the New Alcatraz club. I left Łódź 18 years ago, convinced that everything here was something to be afraid of. Today I would like to feel the pulse of the city that I did not know then – to be part of Łódź that celebrates difference and diversity, a city where you do not have to worry about the safety of others, because you dance together, arm in arm. I’d like to go to a party where women, queer people, shy teenagers, bad dancers, industrial fanatics and sissies like me feel at home.
They say that art is about living someone else’s life for a while. In this performance, I invite everyone to experience my first rave in Łódź together.
