The Witches’ Choir is a group of a dozen or so women, singing performers, who, together with the music band (percussion, live electronic and steel harp), create a unique performance. the choristers themselves also play instruments constructed especially for them.
The Witches’ Choir arouses strong emotions, sings and plays punk, avant-garde, but also lyrically and dramatically. It leaves no one indifferent, it can be a kind of catharsis for both the audience and the artists on stage. The inspiration for this project was the story of the first woman in Poland accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake – the first victim of massacre of women, i.e. alleged witches, in this part of Europe. It took place in 1511 in Chwaliszewo, which is currently a riverside district of Poznań.
The women in the Witches’ Choir are of different ages, belong to different generations, work in different professions. They are daughters, wives, partners, mothers and grandmothers. They are united by energy and the desire to speak out.
