Natasha Brown debuted in 2021 with her novel “Assembly”. Her perspective on contemporary Britain, where post-colonial echoes remain incredibly vivid, drove a wedge into the debate on race relations in the UK.
Translated into 17 languages, the book was published in Poland in June 2023 by Wydawnictwo Poznańskie and was shortlisted for awards such as the Goldsmiths Prize, Orwell Prize for Fiction, and Folio Prize. Last year, Granta magazine included Brown on its list of the best young British literary talents. “Within just 100 pages, Natasha Brown’s precise and powerful debut novel says more about Britain’s colonial legacy and the challenges of existing within it as a Black British woman than most books could achieve at three times the length,” wrote The Guardian in an enthusiastic review of „Assembly”. Natasha Brown’s second book, titled “Universality”, is scheduled for release in March 2025.
